Ballhawk Shawn's Blog
Erik Jabs attended over 100 games this season, but the number of games he truly "attended" was practically zero. That's because Jabs was typically at home with his family before the first pitch was thrown.
Remarkably, despite being essentially a part-time ballhawk Jabs still recorded a monster season, outsnagging everyone on myGameBalls.com with an incredible 731 balls. The myGameBalls community rewarded his ballhawking prowess and efficiency this week by voting him Ballhawk of the Year.
Jabs' stats reveal himself to be perhaps the most well rounded ballhawk on the site. He recorded 276 Hit balls, 224 Thrown balls, 175 Retrieved balls, and 56 Found balls. His average of 6.71 balls per game ranked 3rd best on myGameBalls.com even though he was at the ballpark about half the time as his competition. For his career, Jabs has now snagged 2,887 balls and averaged 5.53 balls per game.
Fittingly, the margin of victory in the vote was razor thin with Jabs (72 points, 15 first place votes) beating out Zack Hample (71 points, 14 first place votes) by a single point. Jabs and Hample battled all season for the top spot on the leaderboard, with Jabs eventually prevailing by a count of 731 to 717. Alex Kopp (37 points), Greg Barasch (28 points), and Ballhawk Shawn (23 points) also had strong showings in the member-wide vote.
